Ian Nicholson has been with Carlyle Aviation Partners (previously Apollo Aviation) since April 2018. He has over 40 years of aviation technical experience, having worked for 2 engine OEMs in the UK before transitioning over to the U.S. and into Engine and Aircraft Leasing environment. From 2006 through 2017, Ian was the VP, Engine Management & Engineering at AeroTurbine, Inc. a division of AerCap, Inc. (previously ILFC Aircraft Leasing). During his time at AeroTurbine, he held a number of key positions of increasing responsibility from Director of Maintenance of their FAA & EASA certificated Engine Repair Station to VP, Engineering & Technical Operations. From 1996 through 2006, he was a Propulsion Engineer at the GE Aircraft Engine Services facility in Wales, working with GE Service Shops worldwide, CFM Platforms, OEMs and CFMI for best practices, quality improvements and product reliability by modifications and assembly practices. Ian, an expert in airline fleet, engine and environmental issues impacting engine performance, started his career in aviation at Rolls-Royce, Ltd. In 1979 and attained the title of Project & Principal Design Engineer, Compressor & Turbine Hardware, by developing a new technology resulting in weight and cost reduction benefits for both military and commercial aviation engine applications.
